CaRLA Organizational Membership

  • *Please Note: these steps must be completed by September 11th of the current academic year. Starting September 12th you will have to wait until the next school year to become a member.

    1. Become a Registered Student Organization on beINvolved

      • Must maintain registered student organization status for at least one academic year before applying to CaRLA membership.

      • Registration must be approved for the current academic year no earlier than May of the previous year (Ex. – May ’22 for the 2022-2023 academic year)

    2. Must complete CaRLA Organization Registration online.

      • Each member of the organization must complete Individual Registration Form on carlaiu.org to be applicable to receive affiliate status

    3. Be approved by a majority of the CaRLA Executive Team.

    4. Pay annual CaRLA Organizational Membership Fee.

      • Once approved, please bring payment to the first CaRLA meeting of the school year in the form of cash/check.

      • If for some reason the organization is denied membership, this membership fee will be refunded.

      • Each member of the organization must pay the CaRLA individual membership fee (which will be refunded if the organization is denied membership)

    1. Must be a religious organization.

      • Religious (adj.) = of, pertaining to, or concerned within a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.

    2. Must have a verifiable college ministry.

      • While CaRLA appreciates the desire to minister to college students, we cannot give campus access to organizations/individuals based solely upon desire

    3. Must be a registered student organization in good-standing with the university for at least one academic year prior to being admitted to CaRLA.

    4. Must adhere to the CaRLA Code of Ethics.

    5. Must be approved by a majority of the Executive Team.

    6. Must have at least one individual member registered and approved.

    1. Must be re-registered each year as a student organization on beinvolved.indiana.edu.

    2. Must adhere to the CaRLA Code of Ethics.

    3. Must have a representative of your organization in attendance for each meeting unless otherwise approved by the Executive team.

    4. Must understand that alleged violations will be reviewed and investigated by the Executive Team. The possible outcomes include probation or removal of all its members. Probation or removal will be enacted by a majority rule of the Executive Team.

CaRLA Individual Membership

  • All renewals and new applications are a 3-step process:

    1. Register Online

      • View Membership Criteria below.

      • Individual Registration FormAll organizations have to be registered and paid by their leaders before individual members can be approved for membership.

    2. Pay Annual Individual Membership Fee

      • Once approved based on the membership standing of your organization, bring payment to the first CaRLA meeting of the school year in the form of cash/check.

    3. Membership Renewed/Granted

      • Once payment is received, the membership secretary will renew or initiate your affiliation with IU. Your affiliate status will be renewed/started and will expire at the beginning of the following school year. If you are a new member, you will receive information about setting up new IU email account, etc.

    Note for Organization Leaders: All organizations MUST be registered and paid by their leaders before your staff members can renew or apply for membership. Please register and pay for your organization promptly to allow your staff member renewal/application to go through without delay.

    *All CaRLA member organizations must also be registered as student organizations through Indiana University beINvolved.

    We strongly encourage you to renew or apply for new membership through our online registration page well before the first CARLA meeting of the year. You will be able to avoid standing in line at the meeting to register.

    1. Must be recognized by your organization as a staff member.

    2. Must directly minister to college students.

    3. Must not be a current undergraduate college student.

    4. Must meet one of the following appropriate qualifications:

      1. “Full-time employee” status and participate in at least 4 of the following proposed activities.

      2. “Part-time employee” status and participate in at least 3 of the following proposed activities.

      3. “Non-stipendiary staff” status and participate in at least 2 of the following proposed activities.

    Proposed activities: attending regular large group meetings, attending regular small group meetings, planning and/or promoting activities, spiritual guidance, mentoring/counseling student(s), communications/social media, regional/national collegiate conferences, collegiate training for your organization.
